I am gauging interest to see if 5 other like minded artists might be interested in going in on a six unit building together. $55,000 gets you a raw 1600 sq feet. You would have to take down some internal walls, put in your own individual heating systems, and kitchen. Four of the spaces have existing bathrooms. Solid old building, 3 story, with great bones. Plenty of on street parking. My guess is after build outs you can get your place for at most a $150,000 investment. Respond if you have the financial means and might like to explore this possibility.
