Daniel Island Community speakers Series presents Mark Smith -- live at Daniel Island Club The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series will continue its tenth season on Wednesday evening, November 3, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event will be held both in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club and via a simultaneous Zoom presentation for those who may not be comfortable attending the event in person. Our speaker that evening will be Mark Smith who represents the people of Charleston and Berkeley counties in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Mark will NOT be giving us a campaign speech this evening. You can read about all that in his newsletters. Instead, this is an opportunity to learn more about the man that represents us in Columbia. Mark is a member of our Rotary club on Daniel Island so we have gotten to know him well in the past couple of years. Words that are frequently used to describe him are hardworking, compassionate and, above all, trustworthy. When he speaks in November he will be completing his freshman year in the House. He ran for office because he truly wanted to make a difference. After a year on the job how is that going? Is he really making a difference? What has that first year been like? He obviously splits his time between Charleston and Columbia. What impact has that had on his family? All representatives have day jobs. How has he been able to balance his funeral services business with his assignments as a legislator? During that period of time he has undoubtedly had some successes as well as frustrations. Is he looking forward to next year? Given what we know about Mark you can be certain that the answers we get will be from the heart. For those of you attending in person the doors to the Daniel Island Club will open at 6:30 pm. There will be a cash bar and passed hors oeuvres between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. The program will begin promptly at 7:00 pm and will conclude around 8:00 pm.
