The Orange Constant + Shameless James cobill with Alien Funk Academy! Presented by Aubrey Entertainment ALL AGES The Orange Constant, Shameless James Alien Funk Academy Special co-headline concert with The Orange Constant + Shameless James with support by Alien Funk Academy @ Southern Brewing Company! 9:45pm - Formed in Georgia in 2012, The Orange Constant creates vintage rock with a contemporary twist. The group’s sound ranges from southern psychedelia to progressive composition— all with a spontaneous yet pop-like sensibility. TOC’s debut album, Time to Go (June 2015), was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer John Keane (R.E.M., Widespread Panic) and garnered praise from Relix Magazine as a “confident and polished debut album.” Shortly after, the band won the 2016 Flagpole Athens Music Award for best “Jam/Funk” band and has since headlined the city’s nationally acclaimed festival, AthFest. March 2017 saw the release of Point of Reference which was recorded in Athens, Ga. and produced by Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Kishi Bashi, Futurebirds). Fueled by Vandenberg’s experimental leanings, the sophomore effort displays maturity in songwriting and embraces more risk-taking in the studio. The LP demonstrates an urge to break genre restrictions as it draws inspiration from 70’s AOR and contemporaries like My Morning Jacket. Nearly one year after its release, Point of Reference earned the band a second feature in Relix through its notably “lush soundscapes and clear, purposeful compositions.” In the fall of 2018, the group returned to Keane to record what would become its third full-length release. Peel came in May 2020 and solidified TOC’s sonic spectrum; heartfelt anthems with catchy choruses ride alongside instrumental mastery with psychedelic undertones. With its rich vocal harmonies, hooky riffing, and succinct songwriting, the album embellishes much of what Time to Go sought and captures the band’s most current sound. The Orange Constant thrives on creating songs that differ from one another and possess their own inspired character. The band consistently tours the American East and shares bills with acts such as Perpetual Groove, TAUK, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Ripe and CBDB. The group is: Andrew Brantley (guitar/vocals), Nickalous Benson (guitar/vocals), Tyler Walker (bass/vocals), Chris Freiberg (keyboards) and Sam Groveman (drums). 8:30pm - Shameless James is an alternative rock band based in Athens, Georgia. After several iterations, the band’s current lineup has cemented itself as an experimental creative outlet, combining influences from an array of musical palettes. The band currently consists of Zac Connely (Bass/Vocals), Dallas Wiggins (Drums), and Zach Tellano (Keys/Guitar/Vocals), and they have played the likes of 40 Watt Club, Smith's Olde Bar, and Nowhere Bar. The band sold out their headline performance at Southern Brewing Company in April of 2021, raising $4,000 in ticket sales to benefit the Eco-Incubator in Athens. The band is known for their ever-changing setlists and love for improvisation. Shameless James’s newest single “Seven Ate” is an explosive neo-psychedelic grunge track that dances between themes of lunacy and emotional stagnation. The track is driven by unique melodic flow, sludgy guitars, and heavy mixed-meter instrumentation. Following the final chorus, the band erupts into a blistering guitar solo, exemplifying the feelings experienced during an intense meltdown. Alien Funk Academy is a mildly-danceable funk trio from Athens, Georgia consisting of Zac Connely on bass, Bradley Reeves on guitar, and JD Lippincott on drums. It is alien funk music.
