Here are the top stories today in Spokane: A year and a half into the pandemic, Providence hospitals are facing hospitalization rates higher than the winter 2020 surge, straining critical resources. According to the Spokane Regional Health District, there are currently 214 COVID hospitalizations in Spokane County. The surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations has forced Providence to halt elective surgeries in order to free up beds and hospital personnel. (Bulletin)Nicholas Berry, 30, who was arrested last week for breaking into a woman's house and standing in her bedroom, was arrested yet again on Wednesday for breaking into another woman's house. Police developed probable cause to arrest Berry, who claimed that he entered the house to see a longtime friend-- the same excuse he told police in the previous break-in three days prior. He was again booked into the Spokane County Jail. (KHQ Right Now)The MultiCare Institute for Research and Innovation is looking for people who have received the Moderna vaccine and meet certain requirements to participate in a booster trial. (KREM.com) Spokane Public Schools says only three employees plan on leaving over the vaccine mandate following Wednesday's board meeting where they discussed their COVID-19 response. (KXLY Spokane) Spokane County's frenzied housing market showed a slight cool-down in September as the median price drops to $380,000 compared to $389,728 in August and a record-breaking peak of $395,000 in July.
