EAST HARLEM, NY — An East Harlem man was killed early Thursday when he crashed his car while exiting the FDR Drive, police said.
Police responded around 2 a.m. Thursday to a crash near the northbound FDR exit ramp at East 125th Street.
They found an overturned Mercedes-Benz M35 SUV. Inside it, the driver, a 38-year-old man, was unconscious and unresponsive, with severe trauma to the body.
The man, a resident of Convent Avenue, was rushed to Harlem Hospital, but could not be saved.
Investigators believe he was driving "at a high rate of speed" when he struck a curb on the exit ramp, causing his vehicle to flip and hit a cement stanchion.
Police are still investigating the crash.
