BETHPAGE, NY— A Smithtown man was arrested after robbing a bank in Bethpage while his toddler was seated in his car, Nassau police said. Philip Ferrito, 40, passed a note to a teller demanding money at TD Bank at 145 Stewart Ave. at 8:46 p.m. Wednesday, according to the department's Major Case Bureau. The teller handed an undetermined amount of currency to Ferrito, after which he fled the bank to his vehicle parked nearby, detectives say. During the incident, only three employees were in the bank. Ferrito was located by police and placed him in custody, detectives say. The investigation determined that Ferrito's 3-year-old child was in his car during the robbery, police say. Ferrito was charged with third-degree robbery and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
