Good Thursday morning Connecticut, Beautiful weather will continue today and Friday with sunshine and warmer temperatures. Sadly, the weekend looks less great as Saturday will feature mainly clouds and cooler temperatures and there is a good chance for rain showers on Sunday. Here's a rundown of some of the top stories of the morning: Emergency use sought for COVID-19 vaccine in younger children Pfizer is seeking emergency use authorization for their COVID-19 vaccine for children between the ages of 5-11, according to media reports including WTNH News 8. If approved, the vaccine may be just weeks away from being offered to younger children. 14-year-0ld shot A 14-year-old was shot around 12:15 a.m. in Waterbury on Angel Drive, NBC Connecticut reports. The teen was shot in the back and is in stable condition. The shooting occurred inside a home where there was a party, WTNH News 8 reports. Police are investigating. (Read more at NBC CT and News 8). He said kids are at risk from the virus and "we're seeing kids have long-term consequences of Covid." Connecticut schools received high marks on how they're handling the pandemic. In general, he suggested more routine testing of all school-age children, which will help allow students to remain in the classrooms more. He did say there is a chance we'll see a COVID-19 surge later this fall, likely by Thanksgiving, but then it's very possible the worst of the pandemic will be behind us.
