I smiled when I read the post about the grumpy old fart folding on the debt ceiling. Don't play chess with this grumpy old fart 'cause he'll soon have your king in his back pocket. McConnell is well aware if the country defaults republicans will get the blame from the far left and media, even though the national debt is an accumulation of over spending by all administrations going back to WWII. The writer said the debt was 8 trillion dollars. Wrong. The debt is almost 28.5 trillion dollars and rising by the minute. McConnell pointed out that democrats control both houses and the white house. They don't need republican votes to increase the debt ceiling. They can do it themselves. But there are a number of restrictions that go with it. Mostly accountability and disclosure, which progressives want no part of, so they claimed the process would take too long. But with the 3.5 trillion dollar dem package looming, with a huge debt ceiling increase that goes with it, the grumpy old fart didn't want any part of it. And why should he when every republican would vote against it? Democrats, looking at mid term elections in a year, want to say the 3.5 trillion dollar "stimulus", or whatever you want to call it, was "bipartisan", so as to deflect the fallout of all the criticism that will come with it. Keep in mind, the bill to increase the debt ceiling the democrats had on the table, the one rejected by the old fart, not only would have INCREASED the debt ceiling, but would also have SUSPENDED the debt ceiling through the mid term elections next year. That would mean democrats, especially those up for re-election, would not have debate the debt ceiling to justify their spending in debates with their challengers. By giving democrats another two months, it makes moot their argument they don't have the time to raise the debt ceiling themselves. The old fart just maneuvered the democrats into a very difficult position. They alone will have to take all the responsibility of spending trillions of dollars we don't have, moving the country closer to pure socialism, and raising the debt ceiling come December. Democrats now have a razor thin margin in both houses, and a completely inept president, and have just lost their Queen. Checkmate.
