HOUSTON, TX — Two years after he was killed while on traffic duty, a Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy posthumously had a U.S. Post Office in west Houston named after him. U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, a Democrat representing Texas' 7th congressional district in west Houston, oversaw a ceremony dedicating the office to Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal on Tuesday. The post office is located at 315 Addicks Howell Road. Dhaliwal was the Harris County Sheriff's Office first Sikh deputy in 2015 and was permitted to wear a turban on duty and otherwise practice his faith diligently, according to a report from The Logical Indian. Dhaliwal was making a routine traffic stop when he was shot and killed in September 2019. A portion of Beltway 8 near Highway 249 is named after him.
