BETHEL, CT — Police have accused a Bethel motorist of fleeing the scene of a crash then getting trapped on the tracks at a train crossing.
Bethel police responded to a report of a hit-and-run on Greenwood Avenue shortly before 8 p.m.on Sept. 29. They found the evading vehicle in Danbury after it became disabled at a railroad crossing on Great Pasture Road.
Train officials stopped service while police and emergency personnel freed the trapped vehicle from the tracks.
Police charged the driver, Christopher Lemke, 33, of Fleetwood Avenue, with DUI, reckless driving, evading responsibility in a crash, failure to drive right, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Friday.
