From East Tennessee State University: October 7, 2021 JOHNSON CITY — Accomplished pianist Hsiang Tu will make his first touring stop at East Tennessee State University on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Powell Recital Hall of the Martin Center for the Arts as he embarks on a series of piano recitals featuring the complete solo works of French composer Maurice Ravel. "The ETSU and Johnson City audience will be witness to its first recital featuring beloved works such as 'Jeux d'eau,' 'Gaspard de la nuit' and 'Miroirs,'" said Dr. Esther Park, associate professor of piano with the ETSU Department of Music. "Dr. Tu is a versatile pianist who was Juilliard-trained, and I can't wait until I hear his all-Ravel program. "While Ravel is an impressionistic composer with his harmonic colors, he is a classicist in his form, and the way he writes for piano requires a performer to master absolute control at the keyboard." A native of Taiwan, Tu has performed twice as a concerto soloist at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center and appeared in venues all over the world. Admission is free; donations will be accepted. The Martin Center for the Arts is located at 1320 W. State of Franklin Rd., Johnson City. The concert will also be livestreamed at For more information, email [email protected] or call the Department of Music at 423-439-4276. For disability accommodations, call the ETSU Office of Disability Services at 423-439-8346. This press release was produced by East Tennessee State University.
