PALM DESERT, CA — This year's annual Rogers Scholarship recipients from Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus were celebrated at a reception this week — scholars highlighted for their commitment to personal growth, academics and leadership. Sixteen undergraduate and graduate students were heralded at Tuesday's event at the campus's Indian Wells Theater, led by CSUSB Palm Desert Campus Dean Jake Zhu, welcoming students, guests and members of the Rogers family. The Mary Stuart Rogers Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to "Rogers Scholars" —undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the RivCo campus. Recipients must "demonstrate a sincere commitment to their own personal growth, compile outstanding academic records, demonstrate leadership qualities and show a desire to serve their fellow students and communities," officials said. "The scholarship is merit-based and only awarded to the top students at the campus." Recipients each year are honored at the reception where they meet John Rogers, the son of Mary Stuart Rogers. Since its establishment, the Rogers Scholarship has awarded close to $2 million to students at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, university officials said.
