The Environmental Management Department aims to protect, preserve, and enhance the public health, safety, and environment through a balanced program of environmental monitoring and enforcement, innovative leadership, community education, customer service, and emergency response for the citizens of and the visitors to El Dorado County. THE OPPORTUNITY Independently perform functions related to solid waste abatement and enforcement within the community of El Dorado County. Perform a variety of work related to reducing litter, such as collecting, bagging, and transporting litter and other solid waste to the transfer station. Respond to solid waste complaints and make judgments on the extent of the problem. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: -Inspect neighborhoods, business areas and roadways for litter problems. -Pick up and dispose of litter and other refuse on a daily basis. -Respond to litter complaints and solid waste nuisance complaints. -Issue Courtesy Notices regarding trash can or litter violations. -Conduct re-inspections to determine if the problem noted on the Courtesy Notice was resolved. -Response to complaints from public regarding debris, rubbish and solid waste problems; makes on-site visits to validate nature of complaint, communicates inspection results to landowner or responsible party. -Response to complaints regarding bear-resistance garbage can enclosure complaints; issue written warning notification to responsible party. -Refer unresolved violations to Supervising Environmental Health Specialist. -Act as liaison with other agencies such as Caltrans and U.S. Forest Service. -Act as liaison with residents and business owners regarding the program's goals and the environmental concerns with solid waste. -Attendance and punctuality that is observant of scheduled hours on a regular basis. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate for this Solid Waste Technician position will work steadily and safely to collect and dispose of litter from various roadways and sites within El Dorado County. This position must respect and promote safety at all times while performing the job duties as assigned. This includes following guidelines and practicing safety on roadways, safely operating vehicles and tools, adhering to safe lifting procedures, and showing awareness in various climatic, geographic, and cultural situations.
