NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox man has been charged with the murder of a 14-year-old girl in Chicago, according to the Chicago Police Department. Michael Aguirre, 26, of the 200 block of South Oak Drive in New Lenox, was arrested Monday in Chicago, according to police. Aguirre is the second man charged in connection with the June 2 shooting that killed Savanah Quintero in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, WGN reported. According to media reports citing police, three people approached Quintero in the 1700 block of West 48th Street at approximately 6 p.m. June 2. Police said a group asked Quintero if she was a member of a street gang. After she replied she wasn't but her mother was, Aguirre is accused of handing a gun to a second man, Edgar Martinez, who shot the girl, police told the Chicago Tribune. Quintero was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she later died, according to reports. Aguirre has also been charged with attempted murder in connection with another shooting in August, according to police. This week, Judge Charles Beach called Aguirre a "danger to the community" and denied him bail, the Tribune reported.
