Description
NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Theatre is inviting guests to come and sign their names on the bottom of their new floorboards before they are installed.
The custom will be a continuation of a tradition of the theatre, where people would sign their names on the old electrical panel behind the theatre's stage. According to the theatre, some of those signatures date back to the early 1900's.
The theatre has a long history in Bucks County. Built in 1831 as a town gathering hall and church, it is the oldest operating movie theatre in the country.
The new hardwood floorboards are part of an ongoing renovation project, which is estimated to be completed by Dec. 1. Those coming will be able to get an early look at the renovations and all the new updates the theatre will be getting.
Visitors can leave their signature or a message for future generations.
Those interested can stop by tomorrow, Oct. 8, from 6-8 p.m.
