MEDIA, PA — Delaware County Sheriff Jerry L. Sanders, Jr. says scammers pretending to be from his office are calling residents and asking for money.
Sanders posted on Facebook Wednesday that these scammers pose as deputies or county employees. The callers tell the person who answers the phone "that there is a warrant for their arrest, or they are subject to arrest for failing to appear for jury duty, or similar ruses."
Then, the scammers request some kind of payment like a prepaid money or gift card. They may also ask for personal information.
Sheriff Sanders says residents should hang up immediately and contact his office at (610) 891-4296 if they receive one of these calls. Residents are encouraged not to give these callers any kind of personal information or money.
Sanders said his office and Jury Services will never contact residents by phone and ask for account information, personal details, or any payment to avoid arrest or jury duty.
