Description

BOLINGBROOK, IL — In celebration of National Faith and Blue Weekend, a "collaborative effort to build bridges and break biases," the Bolingbrook Police Department and The Compass Church are gathering at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The event will run until 12:45 a.m. at the church, located at 151 E. Briarcliff Road. Officers from across many departments — including patrol, K9, parks, code enforcement and animal control — will be there to "build bridges with community members" and show visitors their latest vehicles and technology. National Blue and Faith Weekend events are hosted by churches in neighborhoods across the country. With about 65 millions Americans attending religious services weekly, organizers said partnering with houses of worship is a way to engage with many people at once. "Communities are stronger and safer when residents and law enforcement professionals can relate as ordinary people with shared values, hopes, and dreams," the purpose reads on the organization's website. "The partners who are a part of National Faith & Blue Weekend believe we can find ways to work together around our many commonalities instead of being divided by our differences."
