DANVILLE, CA — Danville fraud victims lost more than $350,000 to scams this year, police said.
Danville Police Chief Allan Shields was slated to discuss the matter at his weekly Facebook live event "10-8 In-Service."
"We want to highlight this continuing problem to protect our residents," the town said.
In August, for example, the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. warned customers that 2,700 scam attempts were reported since June. Scam attempts peaked during the coronavirus pandemic, and scams in person, over the phone or in text messages and emails "have become increasingly deceptive," PG&E said in a statement.
The event was slated to take place live 5 p.m. Thursday on the police Facebook page and will be available for playback.
