Guitar/bass/vocal wanting to get back into it

Description

Music for me is like golf for some folks I know: Now that I can afford better equipment, I'm too busy to play as often as I want. But every time I pick up the tools of the art, I fall in love with it again. Would enjoy getting back into jamming, joining or building a group/band, and doing occasional gigs. I have played acoustic and electric guitar (lead or rhythm), bass, a bit of mandolin, and done vocals for more than 40 years, in bands and as a hobby. I sang and played in a classic rock garage band in high school and early college, way back before the rock was called "classic." The band sucked - no, really - but we had an awesome time and made enough (almost) to buy crappy gear and keep it taped up so it wouldn't electrocute us in the middle of trying, say, "Cat Scratch Fever." More recently, 2014-2019, I was a member of three part-time gigging bands in Minnesota: Ziggy Smalls, Moody Raven, and Moonstone Fever. Today, in "real life," I am a gray-goateed, very busy, married executive with five grown kids. Moved to Wilson County just a few months before COVID hit, and probably moving down around Murfreesboro next year. Listen, I'm not a pro -- decent player and can entertain but not destined for any fame. And I don't need or want to make a living at this. Not sure I want to go after so many weekend club/dance gigs anymore: getting home at 4 a.m. with a splitting headache and still having to schlep all your gear into the house is no longer my idea of a good time. Maybe a smaller combo doing parties, happy hours, patio or festival gigs? Or a full-on band is fine but let's limit how often we do gigs where we watch bouncers shove drunks out the door after midnight, please? I like a lot of different kinds of music, but prefer classic rock, blues/rock, folk/acoustic rock, Americana, classic R&B, some country and alt-country. My playlists are full of Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, Rory Gallagher, yes, but also The Band, Jason Isbell, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, America, Van Morrison, John Prine and Alison Krauss. Maybe we start a guitar/keys duo? Versatile trio or quartet? Or I know my way around a five-piece band (two guitars, bass, keys, drums). Happy to swap guitar or bass roles and sing whatever is in my range (baritone to low tenor with an OK falsetto for high harmonies). I'm equipped for all of the above, and even have a digital mixer/recording interface that may come in handy. Happy to provide samples of past work. Let's talk! Reach out if you think we might make a good fit.
