UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man riding a CitiBike on the West Side Highway was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a car, police said. Police arrived at the scene just after midnight to find the unidentified man with trauma throughout his body. Emergency services rushed him to Saint Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A preliminary investigation found that the man was riding a CitiBike on the left lane of the West Side Highway when he was struck by a 2004 Lexus traveling the same way, police said. The West Side Highway does not have bike lanes. The 73-year-old driver of the Lexus remained at the scene with no apparent criminality in relation to the collision, but he was arrested for operating the car with a suspended license, police said. The driver is a New Jersey resident and was charged with a count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, police said. Police did not give any details about how or why the man riding a bike was on the West Side Highway.
