MERRICK, NY — The Merrick community is having the annual Flag Field of Honor. Chatterton Elementary School is inviting family members and friends to pay respects to someone with an American flag. The flags will be on display on the school's front lawn from Nov. 6 and Dec. 6. To sponsor an American flag, it's $20 for one or 3 for $50, the Merrick Union Free School District announced. US military branch or POW-MIA flag sponsorship is $50. All sponsors include a keepsake 3' x 5' flag. Proceeds will benefit the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District's food pantry, the Community Cupboard, the Nassau Police Veterans Association and Operation Heal Our Heroes, an organization dedicated to supporting veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.
