Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: An Atlanta police officer hit while investigating a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday on the Downtown Connector was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday. The officer, who was hospitalized with injuries to his head, arm and leg, is in good condition, according to a police spokesman. Law enforcement is pleading with motorists to obey Georgia's Move Over law that requires drivers to move over one lane when emergency vehicles are stopped on the shoulder. Violators are subject to a fine up to $500. The pair of Bali mynah chicks, listed as critically endangered, is growing the population of one of the most endangered species at the zoo. Only about 20 birds are believed to be living in the wild on their native island of Bali, according to Zoo Atlanta. The chicks' parents are first-timers recommended to breed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Bali Mynah Species Survival Plan. (WSB Atlanta)A campaign launched this week by the FBI in Georgia is targeting hate crimes by encouraging individuals to report any incidents they've experienced or witnessed. Messages on billboards, MARTA buses, gas-pump screens and online aim to shed light on a kind of crime that is currently underreported, according to an agency spokesman. The FBI defines a hate crime as a "criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity."
