Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) & Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital are hosting free cardiovascular screenings on 10/25. Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) & Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital are hosting free cardiovascular screenings on Monday, October 25th from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at 711 N Montgomery Ave in Kaplan. Guests will receive a complimentary electrocardiogram (EKG) and carotid ultrasound screenings. An EKG is a painless test that records the electrical signals of the heart. The screening can detect blockages, the thickness of the heart wall, past heart attacks and more. Ultrasounds will be offered to test for carotid artery disease. A carotid ultrasound uses ultrasound waves to locate blockages that may be present— ultimately determining risk for cardiovascular disease. Results will be reviewed on site. Risk factors of vascular disease include family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smoking, being overweight or being inactive. Registration is required.
