Attend this forum to learn more about how the creation of a new National Heritage Area can stimulate economic development in your town.
The Sowams Heritage Area is composed of eight communities between Providence and Bristol (East Providence, Barrington, Rehoboth, Seekonk & Swansea) that encompass the territory once occupied by the by the Massasoit Osamequin and his tribes who first met the Pilgrims after their landing in Plymouth in 1620. The Sowams Heritage Area Project is designed to encourage the continued preservation of the land and recognition of the people that the colonists first met.
Through partnerships with local government, parks, land trusts, house museums, historical societies, tribes and Chambers of Commerce, the Sowams Heritage Area Project is working to offer a continuum of linked experiences, unified stories, and messages related to its history and its present status.
