Description
Join the Sandhill Chapter as they maintain the Stephen Foster State Park along the beautiful Suwannee River! Join the Sandhill Chapter as they maintain the Stephen Foster State Park. Enjoy the beautiful Suwannee River in one of the most historic and scenic locations on the Florida Trail. There is no better place to enjoy the beginning of autumn with good friends and great meals along the black tannin-stained river. Our crew will camp at Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs. We will use a combination of power equipment and hand tools to bring the trail back up to standard. The crews will start from the town of White Springs and head west along the FT. Plan to arrive November 5th no earlier than 4pm and enjoy dinner with the crew. Work begins November 6th and ends November 9th in the afternoon. The 9th is a bonus day but will only be worked if there are any remaining tasks. Hiking boots and long pants are required. Long-sleeve t-shirts are recommended. This event is a free volunteer opportunity. Join our crew and have fun! Please note: In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the FTA team and our partners have dedicated extensive time and care into creating new and safe operating procedures for our FTA events and volunteer work parties. With these COVID-19 Operating Procedures in place, our focus is to minimize all participants’ possible exposure to the virus as much as possible. The comfort and safety of our FTA community members is of utmost priority to us. By signing the FTA Assumption of Risk (updated September 21st 2021) you are acknowledging that you have reviewed and will comply with the FTA Covid-19 Procedures as of 9.22.21 and are either fully vaccinated for COVID-19, or have received a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of an FTA event. At this time it is not required to show or upload proof of vaccination or negative test results. To learn more about our COVID guidelines, visit our website. Per the FTA COVID-19 protocols we will break into crews of no more than 5 members each day, working on different sections of the trail. Camping will also be broken up into teams of no more than 5 members with one centralized kitchen cooking for the group. Meals will be served and taken back to each camp. Masks will be required when social distancing is not possible and sanitation guidelines will be strictly adhered to. The Florida Trail Association (FTA) builds, maintains, protects, and promotes the unique Florida National Scenic Trail (Florida Trail), along with a network of hiking trails throughout the state of Florida. Together with our partners, the Association provides opportunities for the public to contribute to meaningful volunteer work, engage in outdoor recreation, and participate in environmental education.
