FORT MYERS, FL — A Florida man was sentenced to 22 years and 6 months in federal prison after having about 1 pound of methamphetamine mailed to his Fort Myers home, the Department of Justice said in a news release. U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell sentenced Bradleigh Wayne Carter, 32, Monday for attempted possession with the intent to distribute 50 grams of methamphetamine and for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He pleaded guilty to the charges on Oct. 6. The court also ordered Carter to forfeit all guns and ammunition related to the case. Carter agreed to have a United States Postal Service Priority Mail parcel shipped to his home knowing that the package contained about 1 pound of methamphetamine, according to court documents. During an execution of a search warrant at his home, investigators found more illegal drugs, including methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine. Agents also seized several firearms and ammunition that Carter, a convicted felon, knowingly possessed, the DOJ said.
