Press release from the Town of Northborough: October 5, 2021 - 2:05pm PFIZER BOOSTERS & UPCOMING CLINIC The CDC recently approved boosters (3rd doses) for some Pfizer vaccine recipients who received a full series at least 6 months ago. CDC recommends all individuals over 65 and individuals 50-64 years of age with underlying medical conditions (including high BMI and history of smoking) to get a booster. Additionally, individuals 18 years and older who live or work in high risk settings such as schools may also receive a booster. Click here for more information on eligibility. PLANNING FOR 5-12 YEAR OLD VACCINE APPROVALSThe Town of Northborough is planning to offer COVID-19 vaccine clinics for children ages 5-11 once approved. The FDA issued a news release on October 1 with information on scheduling an advisory committee meeting in late October to discuss Pfizer amending its emergency use authorization to allow the use of its COVID-19 vaccine in children 5 through 11 years of age. Effective September 24th, CDC recommends that people 65 years and older and people aged 50 - 64 with underlying medical conditions receive a booster at least 6 months after their Pfizer series. Also, individuals ages 18-49 may also receive the booster dose if they have underlying medical conditions or work or live in high-risk settings (such as healthcare workers, education staff, and grocery store workers). Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine may be coadministered with other vaccines - on the same day, as well as within 14 days of each other. Can I receive a Pfizer Booster if I previously received Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine? Currently, only Americans who already have received two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and at least 6 months have passed since the second dose will qualify for booster shots under this new approval. People who received Moderna's vaccine and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will not be eligible for a booster under this new approval. Booster shots for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are under review and not currently authorized.
