NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A 67-year-old man was stabbed aboard a NICE bus Tuesday after an argument between passengers turned physical, authorities said.
The stabbing reportedly took place around 2 p.m. in New Hyde Park.
As the bus traveled east on Hillside Avenue, a struggle ensued between two male passengers, who were already arguing, according to Nassau County police. One man pulled out a knife, grabbed the 67-year-old victim by the neck, and stabbed him in the chest.
At the time, the bus was coming to a stop near Aster Drive, and the man fled on foot. Police said the victim then walked to the front of the bus and told the driver that he had been stabbed.
Eon Marques, 43, of Elmont, was arrested less than half a mile away, near Marcus Avenue and Laurel Drive, according to police. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Marques has been charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation, according to police. He is due in court on Wednesday.
It is not immediately known why the passengers were arguing or how the dispute turned physical. An investigation is underway.
