Plant Stars is hiring a maintenance department leader/ fine gardener! We are a small landscape design, installation, and garden care company based in Oakland with gardens in Oakland, Berkeley, and Piedmont. We’re client-focused and prioritize ecological principles. We strive to create and care for exceptionally thoughtful, beautiful and resilient gardens. Our style of gardening celebrates plants’ natural form and beauty and requires an aesthetic eye and horticultural knowledge. We’re hiring a part time to full time (3-5 days/week) garden maintenance department leader and gardener that is passionate about gardening and committed to a career in landscaping and horticulture. We need a team player to take leadership of our maintenance clients, as well as support general operations. Opportunities in the design department are also available for the qualified candidates. Typical work days include coordinating schedules, communicating with clients, identifying seasonally appropriate garden care tasks, managing a small team, weeding, pruning, mulching, integrated pest management, and running errands. Irrigation system management – testing, minor repairs, and controller programming. Monthly small garden installations including soil preparation, grading, carpentry, masonry, planting, irrigation installation, and mulching. QUALIFICATIONS: 3 years minimum professional residential landscape, garden, or construction experience Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills Reliable, prompt, and able to work hard An excellent positive attitude and sense of humor A willingness to learn and a desire to do good work Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs Ability to work independently and with a team Willingness and experience overseeing and training others Great customer service skills and professional communication with clients Clean CA Driver’s License, own transportation and smartphone Proficient in English PREFERRED ABILITIES: Experience with landscape construction, masonry, carpentry, metal work Experience with Vectorworks and interest in design work Bookkeeping experience Bilingual English/Spanish a plus COMPENSATION: $22-$32 depending on experience, accrued paid sick leave, workers compensation and disability insurance.
