STAMFORD, CT — With the municipal election less than a month away, the candidates for mayor of Stamford are gearing up for debate season. On Oct. 21, the Stamford Chamber of Commerce will host a mayoral debate between Democratic candidate Caroline Simmons and Unaffiliated candidate Bobby Valentine at The Waters Edge at Giovanni's, located at 2478 Boston Post Road in Darien. According to a news release from the Stamford Chamber, the live, in-person debate will be moderated by Mark Sudol, Emmy and Murrow Award winning journalist and reporter at News 12 Connecticut. He has more than 25 years of broadcasting experience and is a Connecticut native. "Post-pandemic, businesses are trying to redefine and navigate a new normal and determine how to attract and retain employees as new business models evolve," said Heather Cavanagh, President & CEO of the Stamford Chamber, in a news release. "This vibrant city is at a pivotal point where being competitive, business friendly, and creating opportunities will dictate our future growth." Simmons is currently a State Representative for the 144th District, where she has served since 2014. Prior to serving the General Assembly, she worked at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for over four years. Simmons defeated now outgoing Mayor David Martin in the Stamford Democratic primary last month. Valentine was born and raised in Stamford, and is a former Major League Baseball player and manager. He owns Bobby V's, a sports bar on Atlantic Street, and he also runs the Bobby Valentine Sports Academy. Valentine is the former Athletic Director at Sacred Heart University.
