Poetry is a story-telling art form that predates the written word. Today, poetry spans a vast array of genres which encompass, chronicle, and challenge the human story throughout the ages.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed Oct. 9 and 10 as two days to celebrate "In the Company of Laureates" to highlight the rhythm, imagery, symbolism, and resonance of words that speak to the universality of culture and embody the heart and soul of community.
The proclamation invited state, regional, and local communities to honor poets with a "Poet Laureate" title to promote writing and artistic expression in society.
