Description
Press release from Prince William County Government: Tuesday, 05 Oct 2021 The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed October as National Community Planning Month. Change is constant and affects all County areas and neighborhoods. Community planning can help manage change, enhance the quality of life in Prince William County and offer residents better choices in how they live, work and play. Community planning affords residents the chance for meaningful involvement in making the decisions that affect the future of their communities. Full planning benefits require public officials, community members and citizens to understand, support and demand excellence in planning and plan implementation. The American Planning Association and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, endorse National Community Planning Month as an opportunity to highlight the contributions sound planning and plan implementation make to the quality of our neighborhoods and environment. Celebrating National Community Planning Month offers people the opportunity to publicly recognize the participation and dedication of the Prince William County Planning Commission and citizen planners who have contributed time and expertise to improve Prince William County. By partnering with the planning commission, the planning office and community stakeholders are at the forefront of encouraging smart growth principles of mixed land use development, creating multiple housing options, encouraging economic development, fostering a strong sense of place, preservation of open space, and encouraging stakeholder collaboration. The planning office is working with those various stakeholders and the planning commission to update the County's land use, housing, and mobility policies and to draft the County's first affordable dwelling unit ordinance. The board's proclamation recognized the many contributions the professional community and planners have made to the county. This press release was produced by Prince William County Government.
