BETHEL, CT — The Bethel Cinema, which closed last year, is getting a sequel.
Bethel resident Jaimie Lockwood announced on social media that she and her husband Frank recently purchased the cinema's business and hope to reopen it "in a few short months."
The couple plan to rename the venerable theater, located at 269 Greenwood Avenue, "Greenwood Features."
Previous owners Pam and Ken Karlan shuttered the movie house in April 2020, about a month after the coronavirus pandemic and local restrictions drove away the moviegoers. At the time, the couple said they "would be thrilled if someone was interested in taking over the business... We will be heartbroken if the theater is truly closed for good."
Heartbreak averted.
Jaimie told her Facebook followers that she and husband Frank "hope to keep all the things you love and only make the space more memorable." The theater will feature both Hollywood "blockbusters" as well as independent films, Jaimie said.
But wait, it gets better: Frank is also the brewer and co-owner of Reverie Brewing in Newtown. Wife Jaimie said, although the businesses are "unrelated," the couple plans to serve Reverie beers at Greenwood Features, "among other concession expansions."
