33 DWI Arrests Made During Weekend 1 Of ACL Fest 2021

AUSTIN, TX — Austin police made 33 DWI arrests during the first weekend of Austin City Limits Music Festival, officials said Wednesday. The arrests were made during the department's ACL No Refusal Initiative, which began Sept. 30 and ended Oct. 4. Of the 33 arrests made, 15 were from blood search warrants, nine were from consent breath samples and nine were from consent blood samples. Live in Austin? Authorities said 13 individuals had enhanced DWI charges. Five were charged with consent breath samples over .15, two were charges with a Class A misdemeanor with prior convictions, five were charges with felony DWI with two or more prior convictions and one was charged with felony DWI with a child passenger. Officials said over 80 percent of the arrests made during No Refusal Initiative started as 911 calls for service which included 15 collisions. Police are encouraging ACL attendees this weekend, who are attending weekend 2, to make travel plans for a safe ride home. "There are many transportation options available from the shuttle service, CAP Metro, rideshare options and many parking lots," police said. "Be patient with each other on the roadway and be prepared for some delays with the large crowd and increase traffic demands." The Austin Police Department and the City of Austin Transportation Department said it is dedicated to making the roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement.
