PLEASANTON, CA — Flags were flown half-staff Wednesday at Pleasanton's civic center in honor of the late Mayor and Councilmember Robert Butler, the city said.
The city said in a statement that it learned of Butler's death Tuesday and ordered flags flown at half-staff in his memory for 24 hours.
Butler was mayor from 1982 to 1983 and served on the council from 1978 to 1993, the city said in a statement.
City Manager Nelson Fialho called Butler "an exemplary public servant" in the statement.
"With a 15-year tenure on Pleasanton's City Council, Bob was a champion for Pleasanton and played a major role in shaping our city into the outstanding place it is today," Fialho said. "Through his thoughtful leadership, Bob helped to guide Pleasanton through a period of transformative growth that developed two hallmarks of our city—Stoneridge Shopping Center and Hacienda business park."
