SKOKIE, IL — Police said one person was shot and multiple guns were found after a car crashed into a school building Wednesday in Skokie. Around 3 a.m., Skokie police witnessed a white Audi SUV and a silver Honda sedan speeding north on Lockwood Avenue from Dempster Street, according to a news release. Lincolnwood police notified their counterparts in Skokie that the Audi had been involved in an attempted carjacking in Lincolnwood, as well as of a report of shots fired on the Kennedy Expressway at Addison Street in Chicago, before it exited the Edens Expressway on Dempster Street headed east. Officers followed the two cars north on Lockwood Avenue until they arrived at Church Street, where they found the Honda had crashed into the side of Jane Stenson Elementary School, 9201 Lockwood Ave., according to police. Police said someone inside the Audi opened fire toward the Honda before turning around and fleeing back down Lockwood Avenue. Officers were unable to find it again. Four people who had been inside the Honda took off running from the crash site, but officers found all of them, as well as an unspecified number of guns, police said. One occupant of the car was treated for a gunshot wound at Skokie Hospital, according to police, who said the investigation suggests that the incident "resulted from a dispute that originated outside of Skokie." No information was available about the person who was shot, and no one was in custody as of midday Sunday. Skokie School District 68 Superintendent Jim Garwood told Pioneer Press the Honda left a hole in the brick wall of a teacher workroom, and bullets struck some windows. He said police and school staff swept the grounds to make sure there were no other weapons left behind. Patch has requested further details about the incident from Skokie police and school officials; any information received will be added here.
