PLAINFIELD, IL — Bronkberry Farms is getting ready to host its annual Fall Fest, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. The business owners have 50 crafters and vendors slated to be at the farm for the two-day event. "[There'll be] everything from fall decor to door hangers to candles to cookies," said Jennifer Bronk, who owns the farm with her husband, Kevin Veen. Last year, Bronkberry's Fall Fest didn't suffer at the hands of COVID-19. Bronk credits having been able to hold the fest to it being hosted in an outdoor, open-air facility. Though she said they don't have an exact number of how many people have come through in the past, she said they expect hundreds of people to come this weekend. "What really warms my heart is the fact that we're getting new people in all the time that keep finding out about us," Bronk said. "I really enjoy watching the families grow up over the years. ... A lot of families in the community have made Bronkberry Farms their tradition." At the fest this weekend — running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, visitors can paint pumpkins, participate in a costume contest and visit the face-painting and balloon-twisting stand. Open to all ages, the free costume contest will take place every two hours starting at 10 a.m. both days. First- through third-place contestants will be chosen as winners and awarded candy and a caramel apple as the prize. All participants will receive candy, Bronk said. Face painting and balloon twists will be free, but it costs a few dollars to paint a pumpkin. Bronk said participants will be able to purchase a pumpkin — priced by size — and then pay an additional dollar to paint it. Hayrides on a 1940s tractor will also be an option for $3 a person, and guests will also have the opportunity to visit the farm's goats and chickens. They might even be able to pet them through the fence, Bronk said. "We take pride in being a small, quaint family farm," Bronk said. "What sets us apart is we don't charge an admission fee, and we have really good quality, big-stemmed pumpkins at our pumpkin patch." Bronkberry Farms' season started in mid-April and will go through Halloween before closing for the winter. A list of Bronkberry Farms' offerings — including apple cider donuts and mums — can be found on its website. (For more news and information like this, subscribe to the Plainfield Patch for free.
