Description

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department is looking for college interns for the upcoming winter/spring semester. Applications will be accepted until Oct. 31, officials said Wednesday. The internship program is unpaid and can serve as an introduction to law enforcement. Department staff choose up to two full-time interns per semester, and students who are seniors pursuing a career in municipal law enforcement and are majoring in criminal justice are given first consideration, according to guidelines. Chosen interns may be required to work nightime hours or on the weekend, depending on the unit or shift each is assigned to. Interns will work with the department to coordinate hours, and they'll be expected to work about three hours per week for each credit hour given, according to guidelines. Some duties student interested can expect to have include being assigned to various units and section of the administrative, patrol, legal and community service divisions in order to "familiarize the intern with all aspects of municipal police department operations." They might also have to write reports, work with data and do special studies. To apply, prospective interns have to submit a written application and signed guideline form, found here. Students are also required to turn in a written recommendation from a staff or faculty member who oversees the internship program at their college. Interested applicants with more questions can contact Sergeant Luke Ostreko at 815-267-7216. (For more news and information like this, subscribe to the Plainfield Patch for free.
