Expect Traffic On Day Of Crosstown Football Game: Oswego Police

OSWEGO, IL — The 17th annual Crosstown Challenge Football Game, where Oswego and Oswego East high schools will face off, is taking place Friday. Ahead of the popular match, which has sold out in years past, Oswego police are warning of increased congestion. Sophomores will play at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game will kick off at 7 p.m. — both taking place at the Ken Pickerill Stadium at Oswego High School, 4250 Route 71. Tickets to the games cost $5, irrespective of whether attendees are students or general fans. If tickets don't sell out online, all remaining ones will be sold at the gate starting at 4 p.m. on game day. Parking for the game will be available in the North and South lots at Oswego High as well as at East View Elementary School, 4209 Route 71. Signs will be up when a lot is full and limited to drop-off only, police said. Handicap parking can be found at the North lot. Busses from the Oswego School District 308 will be around to provide transportation to the game from Plank Junior High, at 510 Secretariat Lane; Churchill Elementary School, at 520 Secretariat Lane; and Oswego East High School, at 1525 Harvey Road. Busses back to those parking lots will be available 30 minutes after the game ends. After the game, police highlighted routes for exiting parking lots around the school. People exiting from the North lot and East View Elementary will only be allowed to drive north on Route 71.People exiting from the South lot will only be allowed to drive south on Route 71.People exiting Stonehill Road onto Wolf Road will only be allowed to drive east on Wolf Road. Police also said officers will be stationed at intersections where traffic will be busiest on game day. To help reduce congestion, police are encouraging game-goers to carpool and be patient when leaving the high school.
