District 99 Students Get National Merit Scholarship Program Nods

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Two dozen students who attend Community High School District 99 schools were honored in a recent roundup from the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. The seniors, who were named semifinalists or commended students, were recognized for their academic performance and college potential, a news release from District 99 said. The district's National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists are: Leka Davis, Downers South Brendan Gibbons, Downers South Dean Golminas, Downers South Juliana Gomien, Downers North Alex Johnson, Downers South Alexander Krejca, Downers North Helen Larkin, Downers North Elisenda Lee-Palou, Downers North Dhruv Nambisan, Downers North Timothy Neumann, Downers South Shiven Patel, Downers South Olivia Roti, Downers South Adam Sitabkhan, Downers North Madison Smith, Downers North Ian Stagaman, Downers North Emilia Swierzb, Downers South Luca Veriotti, Downers South The following District 99 seniors were named commended students by the National Merit Scholarship Program: Jessica Cagney, Downers North Renee Kowalski, Downers South Nathan Nutt, Downers North Madeline Riske, Downers North Clarissa Sigale, Downers South Caitlyn Stocki, Downers North Megan Thompson, Downers North "We're incredibly proud of our students for their dedication to their studies during their high school career," Downers Grove North High Principal Courtney DeMent said in the news release. "Their hard work has paid off in earning this prestigious acknowledgement." Downers Grove South High Principal Ed Schwartz said, "Congratulations to our students for earning national recognition. We're proud to share this news with our community." Students qualified for the National Merit Scholarship Program based on their performance on the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Semifinalists will have a chance to be chosen for a scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Program.
