By Judith Martin-Straw, Culver City Crossroads October 5, 2021 While the Culver Arts Foundation calls itself an umbrella organization, offering support for both individual artists and for arts organizations, it was surprised by the need for actual umbrellas at the October 4, 2021 'Fiesta Mexicana' fundraiser. With musicians, performers and guests all in attendance, an unseasonable storm swept in almost called a halt to the party. "Despite the lightning, thunder, heavy downpour and the snapping off of a large tree branch near our check-in table, we all survived Tito's Fiesta Mexicana 2021." The organization's leader, Jim Clarke, offered his amused and grateful observation, post-event. " Thanks to all our CAF volunteers who braved the elements and helped make the event a success." The annual celebration bringing together Tito's' Vodka and Tito's Tacos filled the space at the parking lot on Washington Place, and salsa and chips outlasted gusts and drips. The rain held off for most of the evening after the surprise drenching late afternoon. Clarke was delighted to have met the goal, despite the obstacles. "We brought in over $6,000 in revenue at the event. Then coupled with a $10,000 check from Tito's Vodka and a $5,000 donation from Ting, we have exceeded $20,000 in revenue." This yearly event provides the seed money that the Culver Arts Foundation uses to promote and create art throughout the community. Next year, the event will take place again – on an actual Taco Tuesday – and umbrellas will be available, just in case.
