NW Employment Solutions is looking for a Weave Helper/Gate Fabricator for a family-owned fence manufacturer and supplier that has been servicing Portland since 1921. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the Weave Operators with production tasks, setup tasks/ change over of wire material. After successful completion of training in the Weave department, this position will be cross trained in the Gate Department as a Gate Fabricator. The Gate Fabricator is primarily responsible for fabricating gates and performing all types of welding and cutting using various types of weld equipment. This position requires demonstrated knowledge, ability and skill regarding welding and the physical properties and welding characteristics of a variety of metals. Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED and six months to one year related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. • Must have a forklift experience and ability to maintain forklift certification. • Be able to regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. • You must be able to properly demonstrate your ability to be reliable, possess a strong work ethic with a positive attitude and excellent communication skills, behave in a highly professional manner and have initiative while working independently with minimal supervision to produce accurate and timely work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Weave Helper • Removes rolls from weave machines by hand and places on pallets or in loading area for forklift. • Stages materials for Weave Operators to use for weaving. • Ensures that the proper amount of wire is woven by reviewing weave orders. • Maintains department equipment. • Minimizes set up times. • Maintains work area and ensures materials and tools/equipment are put away safely and the work area is clean. Gate Fabricator (potential growth opportunity upon successful completion of training in Weave position) • Fabricates gates by adding welding pipe, steel and aluminum. • Fabricates and repairs product/parts using the welder, the hot saw, cold saw and spot welding techniques. • Receives work orders, drawings, and work instructions for the job. Plans work, tools and materials for the job and fabricates product/parts by cutting, burning and welding. • Safely operates crane to move product. • Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded, sets up welding equipment, assembles and tacks welded parts. • Uses a pipe cutter to safely cut pipe to appropriate lengths per specifications. • Uses hot and cold saw to safely cut pipe to appropriate lengths per specifications. • Uses a tube bender to bend pipe to appropriate specifications. • Uses a plasma cutter to safely cut materials. • Performs grinding with hand grinder and belt grinder as needed. • Uses a Stryco welder machine to weld pipe and steel once trained. • Performs spot/tack welding and aluminum welding, as needed. Other Duties • Ability and experience to safely operate a forklift. • Follows all safety policies and ensures that any safety concerns are reported immediately to a manager. • Other duties as assigned.
