A native of Northern Michigan, Jameson Thompson was born and raised at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Petoskey. He first encountered the organ at the age of 8, when organist Elizabeth Von Nolting let him play the final note of her postlude, the lowest note on the pedal board. He was immediately captivated by the sonority and thrill of the organ. At the age of 11, with his toes barely able to touch the pedals, he played his first service at Zion. During his remaining years of school, he played services and concerts at over 15 churches and venues in Northern Michigan. After high school, he moved to Grand Rapids where he studied Pipe Organ Performance at Calvin University. Jameson is an active organist in the Grand Rapids area, holding the position of Senior Organist and Director of Music & Arts at East Church in Grand Rapids. Best known for his flair for bridging the divide between music styles, Jameson enjoys arranging music that combines traditional hymn melodies with contemporary harmonization and textures, as well as performing 19th century French organ music.
