We invite you to join us on Monday, October 11th at one of the best spots to watch on Boylston, Rochambeau (the old Towne). DJ Zati will be spinning your favorite tunes and delicious bites will be served throughout the day along with a cash beer/wine bar. To ensure a fun, yet safe day, the number of attendees will be limited, and seating provided. Guests 12 and over are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test results received within 72 hours of the event. Guests also must wear masks when not eating or drinking per current City of Boston protocols. Tickets will not be sold on the day of the event and all guests must be registered and check in upon arrival, so be sure you're in on the fun and get your ticket now! We can't wait to see you! On April 15, 2013, Marathon Monday in Boston, Heather Abbott of Newport, RI and Charleston, SC had only just arrived at the entrance to a restaurant near the Boston Marathon finish line when two bombs exploded in the crowd of well-wishers that afternoon. Heather was impacted by the second blast resulting in the amputation of her left leg, below the knee. Her recovery, as it is for so many other victims of traumatic injury, was a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows. For Heather, the ability to move forward came through the support of family and friends, fellow amputees and the countless strangers who not only sent her cards and letters of encouragement – but who also generously donated to the Boston One Fund to help her transition and receive the multiple prostheses she needed to live the life she once knew. For Heather, The Heather Abbott Foundation is both an obligation and an opportunity to “pay it forward” – to give other amputees who have suffered limb loss through traumatic circumstances the chance to live their life – again. Individuals who have lost limbs due to traumatic circumstances face physical and emotional obstacles that can leave them feeling overwhelmed. Those who have a strong support system, and access to a caring network able to provide the needed resources, will do the best transitioning to their new life. Unfortunately, for most amputees, the steep price of a customized prosthetic device alone is too great a hurdle to overcome. While most insurance companies will cover a portion of the cost for a basic prosthetic device, they will not help with specialty or secondary prostheses. These devices range in price from $15,000 to more than $100,000, making them far too expensive for anyone hoping to regain more of the life they once lived. Heather learned early on that having her custom prostheses allowed her to return to doing the things that meant the most to her. Whether it was being able to paddle board again or wear high heels, these devices were key to her emotional and physical healing. The Heather Abbott Foundation was created to help other amputees like Heather thrive in their recovery and return to the life they love. Join us as Heather helps to “pay it forward.”
