Join teaching artist Molly Zimmer for this shibori workshop at Harwood Art Center on Saturday 11/13 A one-day workshop exploring the magic of blue using indigo. Students will learn the four basic techniques of the Japanese Art of Shibori: binding, stitching, folding, and pole-wrapping. Students will also learn about the history of Indigo in New Mexico in textiles. All materials are provided; students will take home their very own cotton bandana, dish towel, bulk fabric, and canvas tote dyed in indigo. Experimentation and curiosity are welcome, and students can bring some of their own 100% cotton fabric for dyeing, too. Open to all levels. Please wear clothes you are okay with getting indigo dye on. WhereHarwood's Art School classes will be held outdoors on our campus near downtown Albuquerque. WhenThis class will be held Saturday, November13th from 10am-3pm. In the case of inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled to the same time on Sunday, November 14th. WhoThis class is appropriate for ages 16 and up (under 18 requires parent permission). The class will be limited to a maximum of15 students. All participants must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in advance of the class. What to BringA face mask*Please wear clothes that you're comfortable getting indigo dye on Molly Zimmer is a multimedia artist whose work combines painting, textile, and collage. She holds an MFA in Painting from the University of New Mexico, and a BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been exhibited throughout New Mexico and nationally. Molly is a Textile Restorer specializing in Navajo weavings and has taught sewing, natural dyeing and painting courses through community-engaged workshops at museums, K-12 schools and universities.
