September 22nd marked the 60th year of the Congressional signing of the Peace Corps Act - join us as we hear from Jack Allison! Dr. Jack Allison, is a returned Peace Corps volunteer. His memoir, The Warm Heart of Africa, is a unique tale of his experiences, including songs, to spread the word about public health issues like feeding babies protein and brushing the flies out of your eyes. One of his songs became #1 in Malawi, where he was stationed, and eventually the president had him kicked out because his song was more popular than the president! Jack spent his career in emergency medicine and teaching emergency medicine, though he's retired now. Jack wrote to help prevent the spread of AIDS and COVID-19. Join us as we welcome Jack, his wife, Sue, and Retired Peace Corps Volunteer, Bob Crooks, to the bookstore to discuss his book and experiences, as well as the work of the Peace Corps. This is a FREE event but seats are LIMITED! Masks are required at all times in the bookstore.
