Whatcom Community College invites applications for a Part-Time Hourly, Custodial Helper in the College's Facilities Department. This recruitment is open to ALL qualified applicants. Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, job responsibilities include performs custodial duties including general and deep cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, floors, offices and common areas, using hand tools, custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals. This is an in-person position, not eligible for remote work. Job Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: -Flexibility to adjust shift working between Sunday through Friday, 4pm to 11pm with advanced notice to meet the needs of the institution. -Performs custodial duties including general and deep cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, floors, offices and common areas, using hand tools, custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals. -Unlock and lock doors, turn off lights, and secure campus buildings/rooms. -Empties garbage, recycling and compost, and supports campus sustainability efforts. -Follow recommended safety procedures and attend safety trainings. -Requires punctual and regular attendance. Qualifications, Salary and Appointment Minimum Qualifications: -Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the custodial position including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing/walking/stooping a good portion of the shift, as well as ability to climb ladders. Preferred Qualifications: -Valid Washington driver's license and insurability is desired but not required. -Limited custodial/housekeeping experience preferred. -Effective verbal and written communication skills. -Flexibility to adjust shift with advanced notice to meet the needs of the institution. -Ability to stay focused on tasks, make the best use of available time and resources, and meet the cleaning standards of the institution. Salary & Benefits: -This is a part-time hourly, non-permanent position with a salary of $15.74 per hour. -Per Governor Inslee's Proclamation 21-14, state employees must be fully vaccinated no later than October 18, 2021. Please note that any offer of employment is contingent upon you providing verification of your vaccine status, having an approved medical accommodation, or having an approved religious accommodation. No start date will be approved until you have either verified your vaccine status or have an approved accommodation. -Benefits include one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Start Date: -As soon as can be arranged with successful candidate. Shift and Working Conditions: -Position's work schedule is up to 16 hours per week, 4 days a week between Sunday through Friday from 5:00 PM to 11PM (shift and schedule may be subject to change based on college needs). Work is generally preformed indoors; HVAC systems may be in set back during working hours. Outside movement in exposed weather while moving from building to building or dumping trash or recycling is a daily occurrence, plus exposure while assisting with snow removal and placement of ice melting substances.
