On Friday, October 15, 2021, the Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) will celebrate our 25th Anniversary at the center Pacific Renaissance Plaza facility with Lift Up: Change through Arts & Activism to recognize the creative expression output and advocacy taking place during these challenging times. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the frequency and magnitude of violence, racism, sexism, and discrimination have escalated for AAPI communities as well as our BIPOC community.
Throughout 2020, OACC worked harder than ever to pivot to digital programs and provide easy and accessible community-spirited virtual content because of COVID-19. Through our robust and unique multi-ethnic Asian programming, OACC served more than 25,000 community members through weekly Virtual Taichi Sessions, an expanded annual “Lunar New Year Celebration,” which spanned a whole week in February 2020, and our popular “Celebrating our HeART-filled Heritage” Performing Arts Series. The shift to online programs allows us to serve our audience and stay engaged with artists and community voices even during these uncertain times. Now more than ever, we feel more compelled to lift up our commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion through arts and activism.
Our gala will bring together civic, business and community leaders and friends. Together we will celebrate the diverse and richness of all of the various cultures that make Oakland and the Bay Area such a special place. We hope you will join us!
