BAL HARBOUR VILLAGE, FL — The top three floors of a luxury condo building were evacuated Monday afternoon after a possible meth lab was found, authorities said. After a tenant on the 15th floor of the Majestic Towers Condominium, located at 9601 Collins Ave., was evicted last week, the building's management visited the unit to inspect it Monday morning, Brian Andrews, a spokesperson for Bal Harbour Village, told Patch. "They noticed things inside, including chemicals, which gave them cause for concern," he said. Bal Harbour Police were called to the scene and also concerned by the chemicals and other things found in the unit, Andrews said. "We are treating it as a possible meth lab because of the evidence seen by our officers and discovered by building management." Twenty-eight units from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the "hazardous situation" at the condo tower around 3:40 p.m. Monday, MDFR said in an email. "Three floors of the building were evacuated as a safety precaution." The Miami-Dade Police Bomb Squad was also called to the building, Andrews said. Bal Harbour police are operating in a support role during the incident, he added. A spokesperson for Miami-Dade police told Patch they had no information to share about the incident. The materials found in the condo unit are "consistent with a clandestine lab," Miami-Dade Police detective Alvaro Zabaleta told WSVN. Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the scene, reports said.
