HERNDON, VA — A Virginia Lottery ticket that a Falls Church woman purchased recently at a Herndon convenience store turned out to be a big winner.
Jessica Khosravi-Heins stopped at the 7-Eleven on McNair Farms Drive in Herndon on the way to her job as a restaurant manager, when she purchased a $250,000 Gold Jackpot ticket from the Virginia Lottery.
Khosravi-Heins told lottery officials she was talking on the phone later, when she picked up the ticket and began scratching it.
"It took about 15 seconds for me to realize I'd just won $250,000," she said, in a release. "I never thought I'd win this."
Offering prizes from $5 up to $250,000, the $250,000 Gold Jackpot is one of the dozens of Scratchers games the Virginia Lottery sells. The chances of winning the $250,000 top prize are 1 in 1,632,000. The odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 4.24.
Khosravi-Heins' ticket was the first of three top prizes to be claimed in the $250,000 Gold Jackpot, which means two other winning tickets are out there.
Khosravi-Heins told lottery officials she didn't have any immediate plans for her windfall.
